"How effective are websites"

An engaging website with information attracting one to join their sports management program is Florida State University. This information is found at (http://www.fsu.edu/~smrmpe/) University of Southern Mississippi’s page is far less engaging than USF. This information can be found at (http://www.usm.edu/southernmissonline/programs/sportmanagement.php). These websites show the effective and not so effective tactics that many universities use when trying to attract students to their program. There are many things that schools can do to draw prospects to join their program. The University of Southern Mississippi fails at this terribly. Florida State University’s website was even useful for students at attending other colleges, such as why to choose sport management and jobs in that field.

The Florida State University expresses that what can be learned from attending their program is what is necessary to make it in the sports management world. The first thing that caught my eye and probably others also was readings on many scholarship opportunities. Also, their program provides one with actually duties in the work force so that they can be experienced and trained for their upcoming job. They have video and comments left by the alumni that express their feelings about what they got out the program and how successful they are now. This implement fascinated me because I got to hear an outside opinion on what others attained from choosing their university over others. In addition, they have blogs that informs you on experiences a student has by networking and internship opportunities by reading. They have lots of picture and present updates on what new and going on in the program. This website expressed concrete information based on profession preparation that attracted me to the page. There is nothing I would change about this website. I enjoyed looking at it and reading all the information provided. It also made me consider attending the program for grad school.

They University of Southern Mississippi’s webpage for sports management is very basic. This site only gives prospects strictly the facts and what is needed while attending the program. The only thing one has to read about on the main page is the purpose of sports management, which is already known by the upcoming student. It contains no interesting facts or statistics about what students have got out of attending their program. This makes the website boring and not interesting to take time to read. The university should try tactics such as FSU did to attract their future prospects. Having a affecting home page would be the start. Also, they should have updates and personal statements from former graduates to express their feeling and tell the outcome of attending this university. It is very vital to have an effective website. Mainly the whole world uses the internet to do everything, especially things relating to school. Without having a website like Florida, Southern Mississippi mites loose the opportunity to attract future students to their program especially those out of state. I feel after looking at both sites that FSU put more time and effort into their website. I feel that if you post the information it should be inspirational and effective to all readers.

What is History...?????

Minoring in History I have had to read several articles dealing with the truth behind what is considered to be history. This was the first step to determine how and why things are like they are now. I have grown to appreciate this term and have learned the importance of finding out the true meaning. The writer in this article is trying to make one understand that history is not just what’s written in a text book, but everyone creates history everyday of their lives. History is the memory of the things said and done. Every man is a historian. “I agree that history includes everything said and done, to a certain extent. The relevance to each individual’s life determines the significance and importance of a certain event. Also, it should only be studied, perhaps, if the event has a certain impact on the person who is studying it. If the action proved to be important to the individual in the present of future, that incident would be a sort of personal history. The type of history that is commonly taught is the less personal kind. History teachers think that this type of national history has more relevance to each person’s life than the more individual events. However, sometimes the personal events are more important and leave a bigger impact on an individual than the national history. In the article one definition, history is defined as “a written count of events, particularly those affecting a nation, institution, science, or art.” I think the definition of History completely counteracts the original quote. In my opinion, if one were to do something that only affected himself, it would still be history. It would not have that big on an impact on the world, but to that person, it could have been very influential. Another definition of history says that it “is a methodical record of important events which concern a community of men.” Once again, my opinion of history does not have to affect a community of men in order for it to be important or significant. Also, history does not have to be written in order for it to be relevant or to have an impact. Even a simple story passed on from generation to generation with clues from the past is a form of history. I agree with the article when it states, “history is simply just the memory of past events.” Every person has a different perspective on occurrences because every person has personal bias and opinions. That is what makes every person individual. Personal prejudice can come from ethcity and background; people from different environments and races tend to things contrarily. Also, age and gender can affect the personal opinions of an individual. History must be taught in order to learn from the mistakes of the past and use them to prevent or repeat occurrences in the present or future. However, there is more to history than what is taught in schools. However, there is more to history than what is taught in schools. To me, anything at all is significant in the past is history.
